So this is the dude I was talking to you about earlier.

Here's some stuff he's doing with the toon shader in maya:

but seriously...I thinik this would be a great thing to integrate into some workflow. When I was doing my movie I thought a lot: "man, I wish someone could just draw out the indicated shapes for me on each frame and I can just go in there and give it final touches.

well...with this, final touches may not even be needed, if in 3d- just render and done. we could import the movie into flash for the more 2d type transitions, etc and it would just make everything faster and easier.

From the quick research I've done, this is inded a cel-shading method, so similar to Wind Waker. In maya, the shader is apparantly called "toon-shader". I guess it's also similar to how Southpark renders their stuff to appear 2d, but it really is 3d.

We don't have to do it for S2TM, but I think it's something to consider.

to give you a perspective all the work I did on my film as far as production goes, I did in about three months. But it was an intense three months- it was about 18 hour workdays for two months and then 20 hr workdays mixed in with some weird 22.5 hr work days during the last two weeks- and I still didn't finish my film.

So if we could bring this in it might be possible to finish this ~7min film of yours in a year of hard production, but we need to get serious about this and try and set up some schedule similar to tv where it's like : "well...that could've been better, but....not time".

In fact, even Bret in senior project was telling us towards the end when whe was giving us animation notes, about CBBs (Could Be Betters), which are shots that CBB, but...not time.

So I dunno something to mull over.

I'm brushing up a bit on the maya I did learn while at CCa. Which is actually kind of fun, since I feel I know a bit more about animation than when I was taking those 3d classes.

SKY The Mushroom planet! I see it!

INT - SHIP

a glowing white orb enters the screen

SKY (O.S

FULL SPEED AHEAD Wrrrrrrrrrrrr

GENEVIEVE (o.S)

ASTEROID BELT! watch out!

SKY (O.S)

WE CAN'T AVOID IT!

SKY (O.S)

Anti gravity fields up FULL POWER ON THRUSTERS! we are going to have to run through this thing.

GENEVIEVE (O.S)

Roger that. Thrusters and fields are go.

We watch as they BUCKLE up. These kids look so serious.

SKY (O.S

Brace yourself Genevieve

SKY (O.S)

its going to be a bumpy riiddduhh

Sky and Gen simulate the turbulence as the screen is filled with a warm glow slowly becomes the FULL MOON that fills the entire screen. Sky is 7 and Genevieve a year older sitting beneath an old PINE tree.

GENEVIEVE

Whew that was close

SKY

Yea, we almost didn't make it

Genevieve giggles. Sky staring straight at the Moon.

SKY

Wouldn't it be cool if we could go there one day.

GENEVIEVE

Yea but we don't have any rocket ships.

SKY

Sure we can, my dad is AWESOME at building those kind of stuff.

beat...they burst out into laughter.

O.S VOICE

HAHAHAHA. Whats so funny.

ENTER - BARQUERO BROS

BARQ 1

Yea, Whats so funny HUH?

BARQ 2

Looks like they were laughing about something in that book Michael.

Barquero 1 quickly snatches the book right out of skylars hand. Barquero 1 looks at it and ponders for awhile

GENEVIEVE

BARQ 1

(Mockingly)

Aww ok little Genny, Here take it.

Barquero 1 DANGLES the book towards GENEVIEVE. She REACHES for it. The moment her fingertips are about to touch, he CHUCKS the book across the FIELD sending it SOARING into the air as the pages are torn away.

SKY quickly rushes towards the book, but it is too late. Genevieve drops down next to sky trying to comfort him as best as she can. The Barquero bros continue mocking sky and gen as they make their leave.

WANACREVILLE - Night - Establishing

Every house in WANACREVILLE is quiet and asleep.

Except for one...

a dilapidated home on the outskirts of town.

The voices intermingle

RADIO (MUFFLED)

T-MINUS 60 seconds and counting power transfer is complete.

A BOYS VOICE

Power Transfer COMPLETE!

A boys voice

Push into the window to see...

a WIDE-EYED 10 year old SKYLAR,Running frantically with a toy rocket in hand.

He SHAKES his rocket toy simulating the TURBULENCE

LIFT OFF!

SKY LEAPS into the air. We catch a glimpse of a siloetted ROCKETSHIP and SKY passing through the bright FULL MOON. He lands on to his bed.

From below "THUD THUD THUD"

Susan

SKYLAR WHY ARN'T YOU SLEEPING!

Sky turns down the radio. and Plops back into bed.

RADIO (MUFFLED)

WE HAVE A LIFT OFF'

The recording continues to play silently in the background

CUP PHONE

SKY smiles contently as he lays there staring at the FULL MOON. He READJUST himself picking up one of those KIDS PHONE CUP (but a little bit more sophisticated)he puts it to his mouth and pulls on a string twice. We hear a muffled bell ringing. We follow the noise soon the vibration, its outside the house it gets louder

The bell BLARING now.

INT - GENEVIEVES ROOM

GENEVIEVE (in shadow) comes towards the screen and settles the bell. She picks up the cup.

GENEVIEVE

(sleepily)

SKY

Look outside!

Hold for a beat

INT - SKYS ATTIC ROOM

SKY

Genevieve you there?

GENEVIEVE

What time is it...

SKY

I don't know.

GENEVIEVE

Sky. It's 3 am

GENEVIEVE

you know what people do at 3 am...

SKY

yea but did you see how full the moon is today! Its humongous!

Genevieve

no I can't see it. I'm still sleeping.

Sky continues to ramble until GENEVIEVE falls back to sleep. Sky continues to stare at the moon.

INT. NEXT MORNING - SKYs house

On the wall we can see a bunch of photo's

Family Photo - A young Skylar sitting atop of his DADs shoulder in front of a SPACE STATION. MOM and DAD are close together, IDEAL FAMILY PICTURE. A Glass SHATTERS off screen, followed by BABY CRYING.

KITCHEN

Mom has broken a few dishes and the whole house is a MESS, Pots BOILING over, The dishes hasn't been washed, stains of all kinds scattered on the kitchen counter.

SUSAN

I can't believe this...

She begins cleaning up as best as she can. Juggling between making breakfast and watching the NEWBORN EMILY.

SKY walks in.

SKY

Hi mom,

SUSAN

Hi honey want some breakfast.

SUSAN

(Smiling)

I made your favorite...Runny eggs

The eggs make a WET Splatting sound. Sky looks at it in disgust...

SUSAN

Listen honey do you think you can help me with Emily today.

SUSAN

But mom...I was had plans.

Susan tries to protest when

*DING DONG*

Susan opens the door. We see Genevieve a proper young lady.

GENEVIEVE

Hi Mrs. Aldren

Sky comes peaking out from the kitchen Genevieve sees him

SUSAN

Hi GENNY.

GENEVIEVE

Is Sky home?

(in the moment) Genevieve makes a face at SKY and sky actions her towards the back of the kitchen. She quickly readjusts herself just as Susan turns around.

SUSAN

SKYLAR, Genny's Here to see you.

SUSAN

I'm not sure where that boy went

GENEVIEVE

It's ok Mrs. Aldren

Susan turns towards baby Emily

SUSAN

I guess its just you and me Sweetie come here.

She begins to make kissy faces at Emily and towards the screen

EXT - wannacre ville - DAY

Wannacre ville in the morning lively festive celebration.

SKY & GEN walking deep in conversation.

GENEVIEVE

they continue off into the PINE forest just a bit on the outskirts of the city.

EXT - PINE FOREST

Sky begins unpacking some of his tools. He RIPS an old blanket that is covered in leaves off revealing his pride and joy. A some ROCKET SHIP made out of everyday house hold items. Its body is made out of two large TRASH CANS.

GENEVIEVE

Wow, it looks great. Does it work?

SKY

of course it works! and with this

he pulls out a drawing plan of what looks to be like a blue print for boosters.

I can propel myself straight to the moon.

Genevieve smiles at SKY

Genevieve is twirling her baton and doing her routine.

SKY

What are you doing?

GENEVIEVE

Practicing for the parade.I'm the baton girl. See.

She twirls her baton in the air and catches it. Sky is not impressed.

SKY

Can you pass me the medium monkey wrench.

GENEVIEVE

Sure

they continue working and playing until the sun comes down.
